Taya discovered her love for photography at the age of 12, when she stumbled upon an art website called DeviantArt. There, she joined a community of portrait photographers who inspired her to take photos of other people and herself. Her very first self-portrait was taken with a 2-megapixel camera on her phone.
Since then, her work has been featured on book covers and in photography magazines. She has written over 400 articles about photography, edited several books on photography and cinematography, and become the ambassador for 500px, the world’s largest online photography community. All of this was achieved with minimal camera equipment in seemingly insignificant circumstances.
Entirely self-taught, Taya has learned how to take eye-catching photographs that tell a story. For many years, she used the same equipment (Canon 5D Mark II with a 50mm f/1.8 lens) to take original photographs of herself. She strongly believes that the self-portrait photography genre can help photographers improve their general photography skills, express themselves in a therapeutic way, and find the confidence they need to excel in other areas of their lives.
