Here is a preview of our conversation with Fyka Azman.

Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring product photographer?

Fyka Azman: Build your own platform on social media. We’ve got TikTok, reels on Instagram, and YouTube. We have so many platforms where we can express ourselves.

You need to start with networking. How should you socialise in this market? How should you get involved? Then, find a support system. Decide on a rate. These three elements are very important for beginners.

Never stop engaging on the Internet. When I started to engage online, that’s when people got to know my work. It’s been life-changing for me. Even a few years ago, people used the Internet to just search for something. Now, it’s a business platform. And it’s free!

Q: Do you have any DIY product photography tricks?

Fyka Azman: You don’t have to buy everything. It depends on your working style. You don’t need to spend money on expensive equipment or products. It depends on your creativity.

Be sure to make revisions. Make sure to know what your client wants. Whenever you get an idea, jot it down and present it to your client. Ask them, “Hey, what about this? Are you okay with this idea?” If they approve, that’s fine. What if the client wants more but it’s over the budget? It’s important for you to know all of these things.

Q: On average, how much time do you spend on social media for your business?

Fyka Azman: I don’t post as much as I used to. Normally, in a day, it’s less than 12 hours. Actually, it’s less than 8 hours now. Since I’m working, I can focus on social media during lunch breaks. That’s when I utilise it.

You’re the boss. You’re the CEO of your company. They have reels on Instagram now. When you finish watching one video, another one appears. Then, you realise you just spent 30 minutes doing nothing.

You need to know how to manage your time properly. Know where you want to market your work on social media and utilise your time for that. When it comes to work, you need to focus on work. Nobody’s going to do it for you.
