Karen Williams: A Journey in Building Community, Inclusivity, and the Future of Photography
Can you share your success story of a project that had a notably positive impact on society or your life?
Hearing from photographers that my posts on LinkedIn and Instagram have helped them out has given me a huge lift. It’s awesome to know I’m making a difference! When I hear that my advice or tips have helped someone get better or feel more confident in photography, it just hits home why I began sharing in the first place. It’s really all about coming together, sharing what we know, and growing as a community.
What were the significant turning points in your career that led you to focus on social impact?
After what happened with George Floyd, it really hit me how some photographers were being left out because information wasn’t freely shared. I knew then I had to do something about it. So, I decided to make sure that info was available to everyone, not just a few people. It’s all about making sure everyone has the same chance to learn and get better, no matter where they come from.
What guidance would you give to budding photographers who want to use their art to make a difference in society?
What are your plans for future projects or initiatives to continue making a positive societal impact through photography?
I plan to continue putting out value-based content for photographers, along with publishing my book, ‘The Photo Hustle,’ to share all the knowledge and wisdom I have for photographers to succeed. I love making stuff that helps photographers get better at what they do.
